This is a documentary about the Camisea project: the construction of a pipeline to bring natural gas from the Amazon forest to the Peruvian coast, through some of the world's most difficult terrain. It is basically an hour long advertisement, since the company who build the pipeline funded the movie. The movie even shows how they care for their workers, sending doctors to the field when they suffer work-related injuries. I saw this film at the Buenos Aires Film Festival, and the director, Enrique Bellande, who was present, was almost apologetic about this fact. Yet, this doesn't mean that the film is totally without interest; certainly it's fascinating to see people work in such a hostile environment. What we don't see are discussions of this project impact on the environment. And when the movie briefly deals with the impact of the project on the indigenous communities living there, it is always done from the company's point of view, showing how they really care about the native people, giving them a short wave radio and other gifts.
