这是导演王兵的第二个纪录长片。影片主要通过主人公和凤鸣的叙述,记录了中国从20世纪四十年代末到90年代一个个体经历的漫长而悲惨的经历。1949年新中国成立,17岁的和凤鸣积极地投入到新中国的社会主义建设中去,她与丈夫一起在某省的日报社做新闻记者工作。1957年中国共产党发起反右倾斗争运动,她的丈夫在某省日报发表了三篇文章后被打成右派。她受到丈夫的牵连也被打成右派。在长达几个月的批斗中,她忍受不了其他人对她的折磨几次自杀未成。晚上她回到家里,丈夫抱着她,眼泪第一次掉在她的肩上。这天晚上爱情的花朵开...
