农学院毕业的文星雨来到蔡祖森的花圃工作,蔡希望星雨能培育出新品种并使花圃发展壮大.但计划遭到蔡的独生子蔡培伦的反对,他认为将土地出售利润更大.星雨与其相商未果,却意外地认识了培伦公司的出纳小姐宋小瑜. 培伦对宋早有心意,看到星雨与小瑜接近便醋意大发,遂劝母亲相助想让星雨失去花圃的工作.所幸蔡父不同意,培伦一时无可奈何.正当星雨和小瑜的感情日增之际,因为培伦资助了小瑜父亲一笔急需贷款,而引起星雨的误会,与小瑜发生争执,星雨愤然辞职,小瑜痛苦异常.蔡祖森认为是培伦逼走了星雨,大发雷霆,不幸中风住院....
